But it’s not what alot of people were expecting. Google won’t be selling a phone, rather supplying the operating system and open source code to be used on many different phones. Brilliant game plan in my opinion. Why would Google want to lock themselves into a physical product with low margins? Creating the content to be used across all platforms is the way to go. Who knows, maybe even the iPhone will run Google’s mobile software someday?

Here is the Press Release:

There has been alot of talk about the idea of Google (and some other companies) offering a mobile phone for free along with free service plans. In return, users would be subject to receiving advertisements in many possible different forms. Ads could be delivered via voicemail, video, webpage, email, text message, etc.

I think the main target market for this would be younger users with limited $$ available for paying monthly bills. One reason why Boost Mobil and other pre-paid plans are so popular with younger set. Younger crowd may be willing to put up with ads in return for the free service. The question would be if older business type cell users would put up with ads? Probably not.

I would think best course of action would be to offer different tiered plan options. Free phone & service for those who accept ads, and either a pre-paid or monthly service for those who don’t want the ads.

What do you think? Would you put up with ads in exchange for free service? PLEASE VOTE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THIS PAGE ->>>>>>

Hello, and welcome to my site dedicated to the hopefully upcoming Googlephone, or gPhone. Speculation is that Google will be releasing a mobile unit that will tie in all the different Google tools such as Google, Googlemaps, Googletalk,Gmail, etc into a phone. And there is even talk that the phone and possibly cellular service may be free with ad-support. Pure speculation so far, but I’ll try to provide current info as well as my thoughts as to how this may even change the mobile phone market for good. We’re talking huge pressure on the big guys (AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc) to change their business models. This phone could even be an iPhone killer. All good news for those of us tired of paying huge fees for service and being tied to only using certain types of phones with specific carriers.

And hopefully once it’s available, you’ll be able to get one here along with accessories. Until then, please subscribe to the feed and check back often. Thanks!!!
